F.A.Q.'s (Frequently Asked Questions)
Here are some Frequently Asked Questions that may assist you.
1. What is a “Domain Name” and what does “Web Hosting” and “DNS” mean ?
“Domain Names” are unique names that identify websites - for example, ours is www.WebWorksWorld.com.
Once registered that unique name is yours forever (provided you pay the annual Domain Registration fee which
is usually around $30 a year).
“Web Hosting” is when a web host provider (that’s us) makes it possible for everyone in the world to see your website.
They give your website a home on their servers, making sure your site is connected to the internet 24/7 to ensure that
when someone types your domain name into a web browser, they can connect directly to your website.
"DNS" (Domain Name Server / Domain Name System) are the Internet's equivalent of a phone book. They maintain a directory of domain names and translate them to Internet Protocol (IP) addresses. This is necessary because, although domain names are easy for people to remember, computers or machines, access websites based on IP addresses. Information from all the domain name servers across the Internet are gathered together and housed at the Central Registry. Host companies and Internet Service Providers interact with the Central Registry on a regular schedule to get updated DNS information. When you type in a web address, e.g., www.jimsbikes.com, your Internet Service Provider views the DNS associated with the domain name, translates it into a machine friendly IP address (for example 126.96.36.199 is the IP for jimsbikes.com) and directs your Internet connection to the correct website. After you register a new domain name or when you update the DNS servers on your domain name, it usually takes about 12-36 hours for the domain name servers world-wide to be updated and able to access the information. This 36-hour period is referred to as propagation.
2. Can I register any domain name I like ?
Yes, that is provided that the name is not already taken by someone else. Your business name and the type of of industry you are in will give us enough information to allow us to get the ball rolling. We will give you a list of some suitable domain names that are available. Its your choice, we will never register a name without first getting your approval. For those businesses based in Australia, a domain name ending with “.com.au” is generally the best, but if you're trading globally then you should probably register a “.com” too for added protection of your name worldwide.
The “.com.au” Australian domains are strictly regulated and below is a list of rules that apply to the issuing of “.com.au” names.
You must be an Australian registered company, or business to secure a “.com.au” domain (so registered business number either an ABN, BRN or BN number is required), and the name you choose must meet one of the following registration criteria:

First we will need to know how many pages you want to have on your website (normally there is a : Home page, About Us page, Services/Products page, Gallery page, and a Contact Us page). We will also ask you if you have any existing artwork that you want to use (i.e. logos) or if you would like us to create the logo artwork for you for an extra fee. We will also want to know if you plan to provide us with photographs for your website, or if you would like us to source suitable generic photographs (these may also require an additional fee if we need to buy suitable 3rd party stock photos). Finally, and most importantly we will need the text content for your website (the wording you want to use to describe the products and services you are offering,(we prefer this to be in plain word text emailed to us as a plain word.doc file).
